Origin Doors

You may be looking to improve your home with aluminium sliding doors or for replacement doors for your existing patio door. Any type of patio door, including sliding doors and bi-fold doors, can be a great addition to your home, helping to add value and improving the look and feel of your home, both inside and out. However, when choosing sliding doors, it’s important to choose the right manufacturer, as this can have a huge impact on the quality, functionality and longevity of your new doors.

When choosing a manufacturer for your sliding doors, it’s important to know the difference between a system company and a fabricator. A system company designs the look, feel and operation of a window or sliding door system, whereas fabricators buy the components required from the system company and manufacture the doors for sale themselves. Origin offers both under one business, so we exclusively design and manufacture our own doors and windows, giving us full control over the process. This means that if you buy a door or window from Origin, it will only have been made by our expert craftspeople in our state-of-the-art facility.

house with sliding doors

Whether you’re looking to install aluminium sliding doors, folding doors or French doors or any window or glass doors in your home, it’s important to choose the right manufacturer as this can have an impact on the following factors:

Door quality

Choosing a manufacturer that produces low quality doors can cause an array of problems over the long-term. Low quality doors can lead to leaks and draughts, which will cause low energy efficiency and can affect your heating bills. There can also be security concerns too because the doors will be less strong and durable.

Functioning and longevity

When bought from the wrong manufacturer, the doors might not function as they should, leading to damage or doors that will not open, close or lock properly. This will also mean a much shorter lifespan and higher repair cost or even replacing the doors much sooner than you would expect.

Type of systems available

When choosing sliding doors for your home, it’s important to know what sliding door system they offer. Different systems will offer different functioning, greater, or lesser, energy efficiency, lifespan, sizing options and design or colour options. You will need to find the manufacturer that provides the system that’s right for your home.

Quality

Since quality is so essential when choosing a manufacturer, it’s important to know how to differentiate between high-quality and low-quality sliding doors.

High-quality doors will not only meet basic manufacturing standards, but will also exceed them. Low-quality doors will just about meet them. With high-quality doors, top performance will be spread across every components of the door, including the frame, locking systems, handles and hinges with no weaknesses in the doors. Most high-quality doors will also come with a longer manufacturer’s guarantee which is a signal that the supplier is sure of the quality of their doors.

What to consider when choosing a sliding door manufacturer

Aluminium sliding door

There are many factors to consider when choosing a sliding door manufacturer to ensure that your door is as high-quality and functional as it is aesthetically pleasing. Some important factors to consider are:

Quality of frame and material

Ensuring that the frame and material you choose for your sliding door is of a high quality will help to protect against wear and tear and ensure the doors function properly over the long-term. When high-quality aluminium is used to make the frames, you can expect a strong, durable and long-lasting door that will continue to function well over the long-term.

Origin is able to guarantee that our aluminium frames are ultra-slim and lightweight whilst also being strong and durable. This means better functionality and offers guarantees of up to 20 years, as well as maximum natural light being allowed into your home.

Weather resistance

As exterior doors to your home, sliding doors should be weather resistant in order to avoid any draughts or water leaks. Origin’s aluminium sliding doors are fitted with advanced weather tight seals, ensuring that, no matter the conditions, the door’s effectiveness will not be impacted. Making sure you have the right installer will ensure this is optimised too.

Thermal efficiency

To reduce the risk of heat loss and expensive energy bills, the doors should be thermally efficient. Sliding doors are already more thermally efficient than other types of patio doors, but Origin Sliding Doors take this thermal efficiency to a new level with aluminium frames, double glazing or triple glazing, polyamide breaks and weather seals to prevent the heat from escaping your home.

Sightlines

The sightlines on your sliding doors are important for determining how much light your doors allow into your home without affecting your view. Sliding doors can act as a window to the outside and offer a lower glass to frame ratio than folding doors which feature more frames due to the nature of the doors. Aluminium doors offer slimline frames that cannot be achieved with uPVC and timber doors. Sliding doors offer much better sightlines that folding doors when they’re closed, but if you’re looking to open the entire space up, bi-fold doors are a better option. Sliding doors slide behind each other, so one pane of glass will always remain across the opening.

Origin Aluminium Sliding Doors offer some of the slimmest sightlines on the market, with options available in 20mm, 29mm, 44mm and 77mm. This allows us to achieve the best quality and stability without compromising on the views.

Security

Since a sliding patio door will provide access to your home, it’s important for their security to be as good as possible to prevent intruders from gaining access into your home. Origin Sliding Doors have a minimum six-point locking system along with toughened glass, so you can rest easy knowing your door is extremely difficult to break into.

Guarantee

Door guarantees can provide peace of mind knowing your door is highly durable and can be fixed should any problems occur before the end of the guarantee. Origin offers industry-leading guarantee of up to 20 years on our Aluminium Sliding Doors.

Lead times

Lead time are an important factor to consider because it could affect the timeline of your project, and longer lead times can leave you with a hole in your wall for long periods of time which isn’t good for security and some insurances may not cover this. Quicker lead times can make the process much more efficient. Origin Sliding Doors can be supplied to your local installer in as little as a week, depending on your system chosen and choice of colour.

Manufacturing process

It’s important to know whether your doors are manufactured entirely by the company you purchase them from, or whether the door is manufactured by an independent fabricator, who will not be part of same company as of the brand name you’re buying from.

By having multiple fabricators operating under one system brand name, this can affect quality as the manufacturing expertise, machinery and outfit will vary fabricator to fabricator. However, Origin Aluminium Sliding Doors are all designed and fabricated in-house, meaning we have complete control over the full design and manufacture process for a high-quality door that is checked and tested at every stage.
