During your search for new windows and doors, you’re likely to come across the term ‘system’ but what is a window or door system?
A system is a set of components that work together to create something more complex, such as a door or a window. In the fenestration industry, a system also refers to an individual product available from different brands, differentiating them from others on the market. Typically in the fenestration industry, window and door systems are designed by system companies and then manufactured by fabricators. Below, we take a closer look at what they do:
System companies design the look, feel and desired operation of a complete window or door system.
Fabricators manufacture the designed window or door system. Fabricators purchase the components needed to make the product from a system company, before manufacturing the product and selling it to the trade or direct to the public. As the company which designs the windows (the system company) will have no input into the manufacturing process, it means the quality of the windows can vary dramatically from one fabricator to the next if the likes of different machinery is used.
Is Origin a system company or a fabricator?
Origin is unique in the industry, in that we both design and fabricate our window and door systems in-house. We are the only company that manufactures Origin products, which gives us the greatest level of control over our product quality. It also means that we can be quicker in offering product updates, as we control the entire manufacturing process. Who will install my doors and windows?
Installation companies (also known as trade partners, or simply partners) are the people you will have the most interaction with during the buying and installation process. Partners will work with you to find the right window or door specification for your home, by demonstrating different door and window systems from a range of manufacturers in their showroom. They will often offer an all-encompassing service, such as a renovation, refurb or extension, as well as providing an installation service for your new doors and windows.
