There are plenty of reasons why Origin Sliding Doors are a popular choice for any home. Not only do they look attractive and allow lots of natural light to flood into a room, but they also offer good insulating properties and are easy to use. Sliding doors are also beneficial in small spaces as they run on a track rather than a hinge, so operating them doesn’t take up any floor space.

Maintaining your sliding doors
Regular door maintenance is key to ensuring your sliding doors function properly, while also preventing dirt and grime from accumulating in the moving parts and making the doors difficult to open and close.
Get into the habit of at least checking on your sliding doors every month or so, even if they seem to be working well. Routine maintenance tasks involve checking every part of the sliding glass door, paying particular attention to areas where dirt and debris is prone to build-up, which can affect how the door slides, locks and operates.
A sliding patio door should be easy to move with one hand, so if you find that it becomes difficult to manoeuvre or you need to force it more than usual, this could mean it needs cleaning, lubricating or maintenance. Don’t forget to inspect the door lock and handle to ensure they are functioning as they should and operating smoothly.
Look for any structural or repair issues such as a broken roller that could need replacing. Repeated use and dirt build-up can cause the door rollers to become misaligned, which can hinder the smoothness of the door. If you suspect damage, consult a door repair service or your original installer.
Cleaning
How often you clean your sliding doors depends on a number of factors including how often you use them and the environment surrounding your home (rural or urban, close to sand or saltwater, etc.). If you live close to the sea, for example, we recommend you clean the exterior surface of your doors at least once a week. In more rural areas, it can be less than this frequent than this.
Origin Sliding Doors are coated with the highest grade powder available which is applied using an electrostatic process. This is much tougher and more durable than standard paint used on aluminium door frames and is also resistant to scratches. However, you may still wish to clean your frames from time to time—but avoid using products with abrasive substances in them such as chlorine.
Despite being concealed, aim to clean the sliding door track periphery once a month or so. Don't forget that the tracks on both sides of the door will need cleaning! Start by vacuuming the area to remove any large stones or debris. Then use a toothbrush and warm, soapy water to release grime from the moving parts, especially the hard-to-reach areas.
As well as cleaning your door frames and all of the moving parts on the sliding door track, don't forget to regularly clean your glass panes. Use a window cleaning solution to clean the glass both inside and outside, using scrunched up paper, a microfibre cloth or similar tool to wipe away any streaks. Try not to get the cleaning solution on the door frames.
Lubrication
The door lock and handles may need lubricating periodically with a small amount of silicone spray. This prevents stiffness, rusting and jamming.
