Golden Oak Bi-fold Doors Transform this Conservatory

The Allisons bought their house back in the mid-80s and over the years, they've made a number of notable improvements. They converted their adjoining barn into a lovely pool room and home cinema, which made the property larger and more luxurious. It's a relaxing place to live, with beautiful views across the Yorkshire countryside to Pendle Hill and Lancashire beyond.

Making the most of their conservatory...

They wanted to make the most of this beautiful backdrop by building a conservatory 4x8 metres in size. Initially, they had French doors leading into the garden, however, they wanted something that could not only maximise the views of their garden, but also allow lots of natural light into the room.

After discussing their options with an Origin trade partner, they decided on a 5-door bifold in a golden oak woodgrain finish. “The choice for the colour was simple, we wanted the doors to match the windows in that colour to create a consistent look,” says Mr Allison. 

As Malcolm explains, "We knew what we wanted the overall look to be like, but it was just a matter of choosing the best option for our design. We looked at a few different companies and chose Origin because they looked great and the quality of the doors was fantastic. They seemed strong and sturdy. Yorkshire gets some rough weather, strong winds, and we needed doors that wouldn’t flap around when they're open." Getting the project finished on time...

With previous experience in property development, the Allisons were able to manage the entire project themselves. They were closely involved in laying the conservatory foundations, assembling the steelwork and supports, carrying out joinery, stonework and building the patio. They also completed electrical maintenance and plastering across the extension with assistance from some friends in the trade. However, it was their highly trained Origin trade partner, who installed their bi-fold doors to a high quality and within the correct time period stated.

"From day one, we wanted to invest our time in getting this project right. We had a big family celebration planned with our kids and grandkids, some of them coming over from America, so it was important for us to be hands-on and get the project done," said Liz Allison.
