A Beautiful Garden Room For All Year Use
Sue and Michael Thompson have lived in their Chelmsford home for 38 years.
The property was originally a set of farm buildings that they renovated into the perfect family home.
Modernising their property...
The couple wanted to modernise their existing conservatory, which previously had wooden windows and a 30-year-old set of wooden French Doors. The Thompson’s wanted something more practical with better insulation and required less maintenance., as without regular maintenance wood can begin to rot and warp. The Home Building & Renovation Show was where the Thompsons first came across bi-fold doors and, after considering other door types (such as sliding doors and French doors), decided that they particularly liked the flexibility of bi-fold doors.
Search for bi-fold doors and windows...
Once the couple decided bi-fold doors were the right choice for them and their home, they visited Essex Bi-folds to get more information. Clive at Essex Bi-folds talked through the different materials and manufacturers available and recommended Origin’s aluminium bi-fold doors and windows. Origin’s doors and windows addressed the couples’ initial requirements: improved thermal efficiency and low maintenance. The couple liked the special attention to security as well as quality of the products and all its components, as well as the fact that Origin’s Door and Windows are all entirely bespoke and manufactured here in the UK. As an engineer by trade, Michael was particularly impressed with the quality of the doors and windows and the 20-year guarantee offered, which covered all parts.
The couple chose three Origin Fixed Windows and two 5-door sets of Origin Aluminium Bi-fold Doors looking out over their beautiful garden, creating a lovely open space for the couple to relax in. Choosing the colour of the frames was an easy decision for the Thompsons: Anthracite Grey (7016M) not only matched their slate roof tiles, but also suits the couples’ style and the contemporary aesthetic that they wanted
As a self-proclaimed handy man, Malcolm himself undertook the work of removing the old windows and doors and preparing the area for the installation. To avoid wasting materials, he recycled the leftover wooden materials to build a new garden shed.
Light and improved insulation...
Since installation, the couple have been very impressed with their new doors and windows. They now benefit from a lot of extra light into the room and that with the improved insulation, they can now use the room all year round. The couple have noticed much more wildlife and they now have fantastic views of the garden that Sue spends a lot of time looking after. It’s not only the couple who say that they love the doors: “Our sons love the new doors and windows,” said Michael, “we use the space a lot for entertaining. We’ve received a great response from family and friends.”
Overall, Sue and Michael have said that they wouldn’t change a thing if they could do it all over again. Sue commented, “we would definitely use Origin again and would be happy to recommend them to others.”
