Welcome to Charlie and Chloe Powell’s house.
More than 17 years ago, Chloe and Charlie bought their property. Since then, they’ve been constantly working on their home, making adjustments to meet their personal needs and preferences.
One thing that was essential for the Powells was having an open-plan kitchen and dining room. Typically very American, but increasing in popularity in the UK, open-plan kitchens provide a natural and sociable hub for the home; whether it’s a quiet weekday dinner with the family or hosting a Friday night party for friends. In order to create this larger space, the Powells knocked down the wall between their kitchen and dining room. It was during this process that the Powells first became interested in bifolds.
“Bifolds just seemed like the best option for really opening up the space. Aesthetically they look good, they’re secure, and they bring the outside into our home so you get a feeling of being in the largest possible space.”
By installing bifold doors in their open-plan kitchen and dining room, Chloe and Charlie would be able to achieve easy access and an uninterrupted view of their beautiful patio and garden area. Keen to make the right choice, they did their online research to find out more about bifold doors and visited a couple of local retailers. It was during this process that they discoveredOrigin’s Bi-Fold Doors and claim they were immediately impressed by the high quality, attractive design and ability to create something completely bespoke.
“Origin was a good fit from the start. What we loved was the flexibility and choice we had in picking the right doors for our room. We were able to select a specific configuration that perfectly complemented our measurements and space, and a white colour that blends perfectly with our existing windows and doors. Everything was easy.” Charlie explains.
Out of the 150 RAL colours available, Charlie and Chloe opted for the 9910M Hipca White Origin Bi-fold Doors, in order to match their existing door and window frames. They chose two sets of 3 door configurations to fit their existing opening, both of white open outwards. As this is an external door set, they chose aweathered threshold with concealed drainage to protect their home from driving rain and draughts.
With their Origin Bi-fold Doors now fully installed, The Powells say they are delighted with the final result. By knocking down the connecting wall between their kitchen and dining room, there is a lovely flow between the rooms which is enhanced by the lusciously green outdoor view the bifolds enable.
On long summer days, their bifolds are pretty much permanently open, letting the warmth and natural light in. And during cooler months, the polyamide break used in Origin’s aluminium profile helps to keep the cold out and warmth in.
Family and friends alike have been impressed with the bifold doors.
“Everyone stops to check out the bifolds on their way through. They always have a good look at the design and try out the doors for themselves.”
Overall, the Origin Bi-fold Doors have transformed the way in which Chloe and Charlie use their home. Just a few months ago, they hosted a garden party to thank all those who had helped them on their housing project over the years. Over 100 people attended, including Guild Home Improvements – an accredited partner of Origin’s who carried out the installation of Chloe and Charlie’ doors.
Chloe and Charlie confidently state that they wouldn’t change anything about their experience with Origin.
“The whole process was enjoyable and hassle-free from start to finish. We’d recommend Origin to anyone.”
