What are the benefits of room dividers with glass panels?

There are many great reasons to choose an internal room divider with glass panels. Firstly, the glass panels help provide a light and airy feel to a room, so although you are creating separate spaces with the divider, you aren't blocking out any natural light and can enjoy an expansive view, from one room into the next. This ensures that the glass door won't make a space seem smaller, so is especially ideal for those small, dark areas that you don't want to make feel more cramped or darker. An internal room divider with glass panels also offers exceptional versatility, whether used to divide up an open plan kitchen and living room at home or to separate workspaces in a busy office. Plus, because this kind of door is bespoke and can provide a timeless, stylish look, it can be specified to pair well with both modern and traditional properties.

If you choose doors manufactured from aluminium, like the Origin OI-30, this will enhance the industrial style and steel-look that's currently favoured by interior design trendsetters. You can also choose an internal room divider with vertical or horizontal glazing bars (or both), which divides a large glass panel into smaller panes, for a super stylish look to match any existing interior design.

Glass customisation options – Origin OI-30 Internal Doors

When you choose Origin for your internal room divider, you can select between 4mm, 6mm or 6.8mm glazing, depending on how thick you would like the glass.

Many people like the idea of having clear glass, for uninterrupted views that flow from one room to the next, but there's also the option to have reeded glass. This is ideal if you want your doors to provide privacy, such as when used in a bathroom, or to separate areas at work. Your installer will be the one sourcing the glass for your internal door or screen, so please discuss your requirements with them.

Don’t forget – you’ve also got the option of whether you want to have a kickplate or a panel at the bottom of the door.

Aluminium steel-look internal doors

The steel-look aesthetic is key to achieving an industrial appearance in a room divider. Steel-look doors often feature glass panels separated by glazing bars to help make the most of natural light, which can create an attractive statement when combined with steel-look aluminium. Steel-look aluminium is a great option, as it offers excellent strength and durability, ensuring it will withstand constant use for long periods of time – The Origin Internal Door comes with a guarantee of up to 20-years on parts. On top of this, steel-look internal doors can also create a sleek, versatile statement piece which makes it suitable for any type of property.

Aluminium internal room dividers boast a wealth of benefits, so it's easy to see why this is such an emerging material choice when it comes to internal doors. An aluminium frame door offers excellent strength and durability, ensuring it will withstand a lot of use for a long time to come.

Wooden internal doors

Wooden internal doors are a traditional-style option, offering strength and a homely feel. They are suitable if you have a lot of wooden furniture in your home, and you want to match your internal room divider to oak furniture in your living room or office space, for example. Durable options such as oak are particularly popular, offering reliability and strength. However, wooden internal doors are not as strong as options such as aluminium, and they can also require more maintenance and care, in comparison to lower maintenance options such as aluminium. Sightlines will also tend to be thicker than steel look aluminium and maximum sizes won’t tend to be as large.

uPVC

uPVC stands for Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride, and can be used for both internal and external doors. uPVC can be a cheaper option than timber and aluminium, and is an extremely popular material used in a lot of modern homes. However, it is much less strong and durable than both timber and aluminium, and doesn’t match the aesthetics of other materials available. While it might be ideal for a short-term, cost-effective investment, bear in mind that it isn’t the best choice for a long-term, reliable investment for your home.

Choosing an internal room divider material

There are various material options you can choose with your internal room dividers with glass panels. Which option you go for depends on the look and feel you want to create. For instance, some people choose wood for their doors, but, increasingly, aluminium is taking centre stage. This steel-like material is so versatile in design, fitting in well with the industrial vibe that's big in fashion, the ultra-modern look of maximum glass and sleek sightlines, or even a traditional aesthetic with its gridded glazing bar opportunities.

Additionally, it's also highly durable, easy to maintain and incredibly stylish. Many people like to combine aluminium internal doors to work in harmony with other living room furniture, such as metal wall shelving, wall décor or industrial style coffee tables.

We recommend bearing in mind the following factors when choosing an internal room divider material:

  • Aesthetic and style - do you prefer a modern or traditional appearance?
  • Durability and strength
  • Different colour and design options available
  • Your interior design – does the material go well alongside the interior design of your home or commercial environment?
  • Your budget – consider that different materials can vary in price, so keep in mind your budget when choosing an internal door material
  • Consider a powdercoated option - choosing a powdercoated finish can help improve the durability of your door and prevent the likelihood of marks and damage to the door
