How does aluminium compare to wood?
Style and aesthetic
Aluminium is a much more modern and sleeker option in comparison to timber internal room dividers. With the rising trend of steel-look internal doors, aluminium alternatives are now offering all the benefits of steel – slim sightlines, large maximum sizes and styling – at a fraction of the cost. With an aluminium internal door, you can achieve a sleek, classic aesthetic for your living space or commercial area.
Wood, on the other hand, may be more ideal if you are looking for a more traditional-style internal door. It can also be a great option if your space features a lot of wooden furniture, and you want to maintain consistency.
Strength
Though timber is naturally a strong material, it isn’t quite as strong or durable as aluminium. The excellent durability of aluminium means that the sightlines of aluminium systems can be slimmer and panel sizes can often be larger. This helps maximise the glass and light in a home rather than profile, without compromising strength or security.

Sustainability
If you are mindful of your impact on the environment, consider that obtaining timber requires cutting down trees and isn’t the most environmentally friendly option out there. Aluminium, on the other hand, ranks highly for longevity out of most materials, and is also infinitely recyclable. At Origin, we are ISO 14001 accredited, and we are continuously trying to ensure that our entire product is the most green and sustainable option. Maintenance and upkeep
If you are leaning towards the option of a wooden internal room divider, keep in mind that wood has a tendency to require a lot of upkeep in order to maintain its condition, aesthetic and performance. This may mean your door may require painting, waxing and various treatments to prevent rotting and other wear and tear. You may find this is more of an issue if you live with children or pets and find that marks or damage to wooden furniture is common.
Aluminium, on the other hand, is incredibly low maintenance and less time-consuming to keep in good condition and maintain performance. An aluminium door will only require intermittent cleaning and care.

Difference in lifespan
Providing the upkeep required for timber, its lifespan and guarantee tends to be around half of what aluminium systems tend to be. At Origin, we offer a guarantee of up to 20-years on our doors and windows, meaning our products are a green choice, and provide an environmentally-friendly, long-term solution.

What is powdercoated aluminium?
Powdercoating is the process of applying a dry, electrostatically charged powdered paint to an object (usually one made of metal). Once painted, the object is heated in an oven at a very high temperature so the powder particles bond together and form a coating. Choosing a powdercoated finish can help improve the durability of your door and prevent the likelihood of marks and damage to the door.
Our OI-30 internal doors are powdercoated to withstand relentless exposure to the elements and UV light, along with the everyday excitement and vigour of family life.
