Origin Products are the perfect way to enjoy a new extension
Simon is an Automotive Mechanical Engineer, and is married to Sarah who works as an Assistant Head teacher. They have two children: Jonathan, 18; and Christopher, 15. The couple have lived at their property for 22 years, and enjoyed their time there raising their family.
After many years in the same style and size of house, Simon and Sarah decided it was time to update and expand their kitchen, to make it more of a living area and multi-purpose space. They planned an extension, to create a larger room but also to form a more open space in the area of the house which was used most.
The concept of a wider, connected space lent itself perfectly to bi-folding doors. "We were immediately attracted to them, they seemed the best solution for our plan," Simon recalled. "They're aesthetically attractive, really easy to use and great for making the most of our available space."
Another key factor of the extension was to enhance the natural light in the home. The family wanted an eye-catching window that would complement bi-fold doors and utilise the available ceiling space created by the single storey extension.
Their minds made up, Simon and Sarah set about researching local suppliers and installers to understand their options. It was during this process that they discovered Origin, while visiting Paxtons Home Improvements showroom. The bi-folds were clearly displayed and they were able to appreciate the full range of benefits before buying. It was at Paxtons Home Improvements that the couple also learned about the eye-catching Origin Gable Window. With the scope to make this a feature window in the hub of the home, and an opportunity to maximise natural light, the couple decided that the Gable Window would be the perfect fit in the spacious pitch created by the extension. Choosing the 4+0 configuration for the bi-fold doors meant that whilst the doors could be pushed all the way to one side when opened, there would be no traffic door for access. Because of this, a Single Door was also installed for easy access to the garden during the colder winter months.
The two sets of Bi-fold Doors, Single Door and Gable Window were colour-matched to the existing upstairs windows on the rear of the property, a traditional Golden Oak woodgrain finish.
Now finished, the extension has transformed the space and enhanced the property. The family's kitchen is flooded with bright light which has created an attractive, open plan, area for entertaining, living and relaxing. There is a much better view of the garden, and the entire rear side of the house has become more accessible.
Family and friends alike have been excited to see the new space created - and they love the Origin Bi-fold Doors! "It's interesting, some people don't realise that the frames are aluminium and not wood," Sarah smiled. "The finish is so realistic, they have to touch it to believe it!"
The family enjoy their new living space every day. They've now moved their kitchen table and chairs into the extension - and weather permitting, the doors are always open. Conveniently, the flexible design means they can take advantage of the patio and outside space, even when it’s raining, and enjoy the natural light enhanced by the Gable Window all year round.
Simon sums it up best. "We'd use Origin again, for sure. They were really committed to getting things absolutely right. When there was an issue, they worked hard to resolve it quickly. The doors look fantastic, just what we were looking for, and so easy to operate."
