Bi-fold Doors Bring Hygge Living into this Surrey Home
Mr and Mrs Greenwood live in a beautiful house by the River Wey, decorated with rustic charm and a cosy minimalist style you’d typically expect to find in a Scandinavian home. While their style and interior design skills may come naturally – with Mrs Greenwood originating from Sweden - the couple have had to work extremely hard to turn their house into a family home focussed on open, relaxed living.
After buying the property, the couple began major renovation work, including a large single storey extension, levelling out their garden, new doors and windows, roofing and more. Whilst also caring for their young children and working demanding jobs, the renovation work wasn’t easy and the couple are immensely happy with the finished result.
The one thing that this couple knew they wanted from the very beginning was bi-fold doors. Their kitchen extension created a large dining area that backed onto a patio with lounger chairs. The couple envisaged long summer nights with their bi-fold doors open and the children playing safely between inside and outside; that’s exactly what they achieved with Origin Bi-fold Doors. They say that with their bi-fold doors - which their Origin partner Windows 2000, installed in 2016 - help to create a new outdoor lounge area for the property, which reinforces their love for outdoor living.
Their 6 door set of bi-folds is the main focus of the room, deliberately chosen in 7016M to contrast with their white windows. Mr Greenwood states he specifically wanted aluminium bi-fold doors – “We didn’t want timber or uPVC because we know they can warp and not function as well over time. We knew from the beginning we’d get them in aluminium because we wanted the doors to last a long time and be high quality.” Benefiting from Origin’s guarantee of up to 20 years, the Greenwoods have peace of mind that their aluminium bi-fold doors are not only strong, beautiful and operate flawlessly, but are also covered for a long time.
Mr Greenwood states that he would absolutely recommend Origin products and their bespoke nature. His wife absolutely wanted doors that opened outwards, which is apparently a very Scandinavian feature (many British doors open inwards, which can take up valuable indoor space), and so they were pleased to achieve this with their Origin Bi-fold Doors. The couple also wanted their lead door to be in the middle, not at the side, which, due to the bespoke nature of Origin product, they were able to achieve.
Overall, the couple say they are “very, very happy with the doors” and really like how the doors have changed the way they interact with their home and garden, drawing the two together. “It’s so easy to fold the doors back and make more use of the garden now. The other week, we decided to have fire-pit sausages for dinner! We spent the evening lounging outside while the kids played, and knew they were safe - especially with the finger safe gaskets. We love the natural living and the doors really help us live the way we always wanted to”, Mr Greenwood states.
