The Famous Property We Want Most As Our Forever Home
Do you ever look at homes in films or your favourite TV shows and wished you lived in a similar property?
Or perhaps imagined what it might be like to live in a historical building, such as Buckingham Palace?
That was the question on our minds when we recently asked 2,000 UK adults which famous house they would most like to live in – either from history, popular culture or fiction.
We’re lucky enough to have an abundance of beautiful homes and stunning architecture in the UK, so there was fierce competition for the number one spot.
With an overwhelming 23% of the vote, Kirrin Cottage took the title and tops our list of the most wanted famous homes.
The Top 5 Most Wanted Famous Homes
1. Kirrin Cottage
The most wanted home in the UK is Kirrin Cottage from the Famous Five books by Enid Blyton. The fictional property, which is home to George and her family in the series of much-loved children’s books, was chosen as the perfect home by a quarter of the British public. Located on Kirrin Island in Dorset, the thatched property encompasses all that we love about quintessential British cottages.
2. The Home of ITV's "Doc Martin"
The quaint Cornish cottage owned by ITV’s Doc Martin was voted in second place. One in five of us want to live in Fern Cottage in Port Isaac, a two-bedroom detached stone cottage, with stunning views overlooking the harbour and out to the Atlantic.
3. The home of Tom and Barbara Good in "The Good Life"
Although it’s been more than 40 years since Felicity Kendal and Richard Briers starred as Tom and Barbara Good in The Good Life on BBC One, the home of the couple still has an impact, coming third in our poll. Over 10 per cent of people chose the suburban property in Northwood as their ideal home.
4. Christian Grey's penthouse apartment in 50 Shades of Grey
The penthouse apartment owned by Christian Grey from the best-selling ‘50 Shades of Grey’ novels followed closely behind – with residents living in the North East of England most likely to choose this particular property.
5. The Love Island Villa
It seems that the popularity of the British dating reality show ‘Love Island’ on ITV over the summer is also having an influence on the nation’s choice of home. The privately-owned property in Majorca, known as ‘the Love Island Villa’, also made the list in fifth place.
Those living in Yorkshire were most likely to choose the Spanish property as their ideal home, compared to the rest of the UK. Perhaps unsurprisingly, students were twice as likely to pick the villa – it was the top choice for one in five students.
What famous property is your ideal home?
Beatrix Potter’s Farmhouse, Hogwarts, Bilbo Baggin’s Hobbit Hole, Downton Abbey and Dr. Who’s Tardis, were also among the famous properties chosen as the perfect home.
