The Johnson’s built their new pool room in the summer of 2018 and knew that they wanted large expanses of glass incorporated into the building to give the indoor pool an ‘outdoor’ feel all year round. To achieve this, it was important to encourage as much natural light as possible into the space, so that the room would become a calm place to exercise and relax in.
Choosing the perfect doors
The couple visited Origin Premium Partner, Freedom Bi-folds, which is where they discovered Origin’s Sliding Door. In the showroom, the couple were able to test out the door and were impressed by its smooth operating system. With a lot of glass on show, and slim 20mm sightlines, the couple raised concern about the security of the doors. However, like every other Origin product, the innate strength of aluminium paired with the slider’s sophisticated 6-point locking system mean that the doors can withstand attack against even the most determined intruder.
With their expectations exceeded, they opted for a large four-door set to stretch across the back of the pool house, as well as two two-door sets, that would be installed in the gym area, adjacent to one another, creating a light and airy dual aspect.
Modern colour meets traditional style
With its traditional style stone walls, the couple felt that the pool house needed a door colour that would contrast yet compliment the rest of the newly finished building. With over 150 RAL colours to choose from, the couple were spoilt for choice. Anthracite Grey (7016M) was chosen, which the Johnson’s felt would give the building a modern meets traditional look. The same colour was chosen for the inside of the doors, which is perfectly softened and contrasted by the natural oak beams that support the building.
A smooth installation process
“The installation process by Freedom Bi-folds was extremely professional and smooth.”
After enduring the invasive and loud process of building the pool room, the Johnson’s were impressed by how quickly and quietly Freedom’s installation team worked, with minimal disruption to the rest of their home.
Once installed, the couple loved the look of their finished pool room, with the doors and windows being the perfect final touch. They noticed the benefits of the doors straight away, and particularly love how the light bounces off the walls and the water, creating a further illusion of space throughout the room and highlighting its different areas like the sectioned off gym space.
An ‘outdoor’ feel all year round
The most notable benefit of having the large amounts of glass for the couple has been the space feeling so open and bright, something they didn’t think they’d be able to achieve so well when first starting the project. With the big expanses of glass and the ability to slide three of the panes back, the couple now have a seamless transition to the outside, as though the pool is outside. As well as enjoying the pool during the summer, the couple can enjoy the space equally as much during the cold winter months. With a U-Value of 1.4 that exceeds British Building Regulation requirements, the Johnsons are kept warm in their space, whilst still benefitting from ample natural light; even during the coldest winter days.
Family and friends have been Impressed by the overall quality and operation of the doors meaning that they wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Origin.
