We especially like having our morning coffee with the doors open and being able to enjoy the fresh sea air and stunning views overlooking the coast. The doors really have become a feature of the house.

- Judith

When Mike and Judith lived in St Albans, they would regularly visit Devon for holidays throughout the year, due to their love for the South-West county. In fact, they loved Devon so much that for 25yrs, it became their preferred holiday destination. It was only after those 25yrs that the couple were able to realise their dream and move away from the busy city, and relocate to the calming countryside.

It wasn't easy finding the right property though, as they wanted something by the coast that wasn't too old. It took three-and-a-half years of searching, but finally, they found a property that had potential in Teignmouth, just north of the River Teign and had only been built four years beforehand. It was also right by the coast, so close that you can actually see the sea from the garden.

Achieving Unobstructed Views

One of the first jobs they wanted to complete after moving in was replacing the existing narrow French doors to freshen up the look of the back of the house, enabling them to maximise the view they had of the coast. The French doors had fixed panes on either side and they severley restricted the view to the patio, garden, and beyond due to thick frames.

The solution the couple decided on was bi-folding doors.

When they were living in St Albans, they saw an advertisement for Origin, so decided to do some research. They got in touch and found out some more information before visiting one of Origin’s partners’ showrooms - Prime nearby. After speaking with the team at Prime the couple were very happy and decided on an installation date.

"We loved the operation of the doors and the overall look," said Judith. "We knew this would give us what we were looking for - a view without thick frames in the way when the doors are closed, and the ability to open the space up when the weather allows it."

The couple also knew they wanted aluminium doors rather than uPVC or other options, plus, they were impressed with the marine coating that is available from Origin, as it's ideal for properties that are close to the coast and comes with a great, all encompassing guarantee.

"That was peace of mind that we could not pass on," said Judith.

While the doors let a lot of light into the house and give great views over the garden and beyond even when closed, the truth is they are open most of the time Mike and Judith are in the house. They have an attractive patio area outside with seating and dining facilities – the bi-folding doors make this area much more integrated with the inside space of the house.
