Creating the Perfect Space for Living and Parties with Origin
"The overall response has been fantastic. The doors are the perfect finishing touch to the house. We love them."
- Cameron Butler
The Butler’s first moved into their Bath property back in 1994, and after 10 years of living there, began to consider moving up the property ladder. Whilst they heavily considered moving, the stamp duty and legal fees were excessive, which led Cameron and his wife to build an extension on their home instead. The aim was to create more space whilst increasing the value of the property.
Despite being a busy wedding photographer and student landlord, Cameron was keen to get involved with the hard work and took it upon himself to paint the entire extension himself. This is even more impressive when you consider they also converted and integrated a side garage to be part of the new extension. From start to finish, the entire project took seven months to complete.
During the design stage, Cameron's architect suggested the installation of bi-folding doors. Research into what was available led the Butler’s to Origin. They had some specific requirements; Cameron's wife, for example, wanted an option that was highly secure to protect the back of the house when it was locked up at night.
"There are a number of things I like about Origin," said Cameron. "I like the quality of the doors, I like the fact they are designed and manufactured in Britain, and both my wife and I like the security features. I was also bowled over by the 20-year guarantee as it is twice as much as the other manufacturers I looked at."
The industry standard guarantee for bi-folding doors is 10 years, but Origin offers 20 years for complete peace of mind.
A lengthy discussion took place about the colour of the doors, and the couple contemplated going for anthracite grey before eventually deciding on white to match the windows throughout the rest of the house.
One of the most unique features of the new room is a crate which Cameron's mother brought to England when she moved from Sicily in the early 1950s. Cameron preserved the crate and it now sits as a centrepiece, giving a vintage contrast to the contemporary doors as well as acting as storage for some of his 900+ vinyls!
Cameron and his wife host regular parties and frequently have more than 20 guests milling around their living, dining, patio, and garden areas. Cameron said the response from guests regarding the extension, and specifically the doors, has been great.
