The Bi-fold Expectation

Set in the picturesque Buckinghamshire town of Beaconsfield, this Origin installation makes an already stunning home that bit more special.

This is a slightly unconventional case study, as it wasn’t for a home nor commercial property; it was a complete new build, which included the installation of Origin Bi-fold Doors, with the intention of selling the house after the work was complete.

The home developers who undertook this mammoth task specialise in building premium quality, high specification homes. The company originally started out over 20 years ago, building small extensions, but have gradually worked up, and the smallest project they would now take on would be no less than 4,000sq ft.

Despite its traditional looks, this immense 7 bedroom, 8,500sq ft property is in fact a new build, designed to blend in with the authentic style that the surrounding area boasts, but whilst offering the benefits of a modern home.

Being the luxury home creators they are, the construction company had been using bi-folds for a while, but were experiencing problems with PVC and wood bi-fold doors warping and flexing in the various weather conditions that the UK climate brings.

Because of the quality expected by themselves and from their customers, this was not well received. Therefore, they decided it was time to switch to aluminium because of its reputation for strength and quality.

After searching the web for high quality, aluminium doors, they found Origin, an award-winning bi-folding door manufacturer and quickly got in touch.

They were easily able to colour coordinate the doors to the interior design as well as the matching the colour of the exterior’s extension, and soon after decided on a 5 door set and a 5x5 moving corner post set to allow the inside and outside to merge seamlessly.

The 2 sets of Origin Bi-fold Doors were installed soon after this, and are situated in the kitchen/ dining/ extended seating area. These three rooms have been merged into one open planned space, and it’s not hard to imagine this lengthy space being the focal point in the house for summer parties and BBQ’s.

The merging of the rooms has been a popular trend in interior decorating and renovations of recent years as it brings people together perfectly, so it’s no wonder it was designed this way.

One of the best things about doing it this way is that it makes the kitchen/ living area an all-year round room. In the summer, it’s great to open up the doors and use the garden as an extra addition to the living space, whereas, in the winter, it becomes a cosy den, filled with rich cooking smells.

The house had been decorated to a high specification throughout by using an interior designer to offer an opulent, luxurious feel in every room, so picking Origin was an easy choice.

“In a home like this, bi-fold doors are expected. They offer a transitional living experience like no other”, said the representative of the construction company.

The entirety of the project took them from the end of 2012 through to February 2014, with the actual building starting to take place in March 2013.

We’re sure that whoever buys the house will be exceptionally happy with the flawless quality and functionality that an Origin Bi-fold Door will bring.

The company is now working on a new development, of 12,000sq, for which Origin doors have already been ordered for!
