Striking White Bifolds in Lake District Home
After moving around with work for many years, the Weatherbys decided to move back to the Lake District in 2009, where they had both spent their childhoods. They loved returning to Cumbria, full of natural beauty from mountains to forests to lakes; the couple had missed the views and serenity of the area.
Not uncommon in these areas, the Weatherbys experienced water damage after a storm hit the area, getting into the property through a failing patio window. It was when researching replacement patio windows that the couple realised this was an opportunity to completely remodel their lounge, including flooring, plastering, electrics, fireplace and more. One of the key things that the Weatherbys wanted to replace was their sliding patio door, which over time had suffered damage and needed to be replaced with new doors that would not only offer durability and strength but also maximise their stunning country views. Importantly, the doors needed to offer weather protection as their property was prone to heavy rain and winds.
“We looked at a number of options and having seen the Origin Aluminium Bi-fold Door, it was the preferred choice,” Mrs Weatherby remarks. They opted for a 2+0 configuration in white, complete with colour-coordinated gaskets and handles. The bifolds addressed the Weatherbys’ requirements for weather protection, offering high thermal efficiency, concealed drainage and a weathered threshold to protect the home against driving wind and rain. The Weatherbys were surprised by an added benefit Origin Bi-fold Doors provide: “The new doors make everything so much quieter! We didn’t realise how well they would protect us from external noise. When they’re closed, we can barely hear the main road, even when it’s busy.” And yet, you never feel disconnected from the outdoors as they offer thin sightlines for more glass and better views, as well as the ability to create a seamless transition at any point of the day. Particularly, when the sun shines down on the property, the entire living room lights up for a warm and welcoming room.
As for the colour and interior design, the Weatherbys were inspired by their travels in North Africa: “The Arab look inspired us and we wanted to recreate it in our own home.” With colourful candles, table runners, lanterns and cushions, their white bifolds allow all the focus to be given to these accessories, while still framing the rolling countryside views to perfection.
