Origin's #cavetocrib Winner!

When we realised the space we had, we knew there was no alternative to bi-folds.

- Competition winner, Lee

The #cavetocrib competition ran from June through to September 2014, and was set up alongside the Origin TV advertising campaign, sponsoring Dream Homes on the Home Channel.

With the intention of inspiring homeowners to make the most of their home, #cavetocrib encouraged people to take photographs of their latest renovation projects and send them in to Origin for the chance to win £500 John Lewis vouchers.

After a Leefficult decision, it was decided that Brighton based, Lee, was the lucky winner because of the sheer transformation, effort put in to the project as well as the unconventional build structure that she contended with.

Having only moved in to the property in July 2013, the transformation is astonishing as she wasted no time in managing to complete every room in the house, all bar the kitchen which is next on her agenda.

The house itself is a rather unusual build; it is a three bedroom, three story house with a three tiered garden. The bottom story of the house opens out to a decked balcony. Stairs from here lead you to the paved tier with integrated play hut (located under the balcony), then finally, you are led down another flight of stairs to some grass and various shrubberies.

Prior to the installation of the newly renovated garden and bi-fold doors, it is hard to imagine that there used to be a brick wall in place when the old patio doors were opened. However, it’s even harder to imagine that the family room was originally two rooms and a corridor until Lee took the decision to knock it down to create one large family space.

When Lee, her husband and child moved in, they soon realised the potential they had with the garden, so went to various homebuilLeeng shows to see what was available.

From the outset, Lee’s husband was set on the idea of bi-folds, and after learning a bit more, Lee quickly followed suit. “When we realised the space we had, we knew there was no alternative to bi-folds”, says Lee.

Whilst at these shows, Lee tried to get some quotes, but was often faced with long lead times on receiving these, rude staff members and quite frankly poor customer service. That was, of course, until she was introduced to Origin by her builder.

Lee’s builder said that he has a lot of experience with Origin, and that they consistently supply premium quality doors and offer a industry-leaLeeng guarantee, which made it an easy choice for Lee. As Lee and her family have just moved in, it was knowing that her doors will be taken care of for 20 years that was a major selling point.

The Origin Bi-fold Doors were installed in the family room; lowest tier of the house (where it opens up onto the decking), and Lee opted for a 3 door set over a aperture of 3348mm to make the most of her stunning surrounLeeng views, making each door leaf 1067mm by a standard height of 1979mm.

Lee’s Origin Bi-fold Doors are powdercoated in a slate gray finish which gives a contemporary, fresh look to a property. The premium finish on the doors removes the need for maintenance and painting. The finish is hard wearing helps protect against colour faLeeng and scratches - perfect for when her little one is about!

The family room project was started at the beginning of June 2014, and the doors were ordered and installed by the end the month. The final touches of the house were completed in the middle of September, and celebrate, Lee is hosting a garden party this weekend!

When asked how they’ve changed things in her life, Lee, who works from home, said “It has given a whole new meaning to alfresco working; I love it!”
