A Cambridgeshire Property Open’s It’s Doors to a Modern New Look
An abundance of light is at the top of the wish list for most people when buying or renovating a property. A Cambridgeshire based family fulfilled this wish when they transformed their home into a modern light-filled family space after installing two sets of Origin Bi-fold Doors in their extension.
Since the family moved into the house in 2005, they wanted more light and more space from their home, and in 2010, they began planning the first of two extensions, with the aim of creating a relaxed, spacious living area for the whole family to enjoy.
Safety and Security for Family Living
Although the couple roughly knew what they wanted, they visited some home exhibitions for additional inspiration, and this is where they met Origin. The couple were impressed with the expert engineering of the doors and the fact that they were made from aluminium, which makes them highly durable. A further bonus was the doors’ bespoke ‘finger safe’ gaskets and security features which are important considerations for a busy family home.
“The security of the doors was paramount for us as a family,” says Daryl. “We had specific requirements in mind to ensure optimum protection and privacy for our child. We didn’t want external handles on the doors and requested that the same key was used to open all doors for convenience, and due to the bespoke nature of the Origin door, all these non-conventional features were catered for, without fuss.”
A Clean White Finish for a Modern Look
After planning permission was given, the work on the first 12sqm conservatory extension began and included two sets of Origin Bi-fold Doors, each comprising of four doors.
Incorporating two sets of doors into the extension meant that two sides of the room could be opened up to the garden. The two sets of doors fit into apertures of 3397mm and 3435mm, with each door leaf measuring 805mm and 796mm wide respectively by a standard height of approximately 1996mm.
All of Origin’s aluminium doors are powder coated with a highly durable finish which is resistant to colour fading and scratching. For this project, the couple chose to have the doors finished in Hipca White to maintain a modern fresh look and complement the white walls of the extension. The high grade powder coated finish means the doors require very little maintenance too, making them extremely easy to look after.
Fantastic Results from a Bespoke Design
The first stage of the project was finished in June 2013 and now the family are enjoying the benefits of the bi-fold doors. “What I love about the doors is that you are essentially able to take down the walls and merge your outdoors with your interior. It is lovely being that close to the outside, which is quite special being in a town,” concludes Daryl. The home will be extended further to incorporate additional bi-folds, by removing the gable end and taking down the garage. This part of the project is due to start in August 2015 and is expected to be a four to six month build.
