After nearly 20 years in their home, the owners found their original timber windows at the rear of the property were deteriorating badly. The south-facing elevation receives intense sunlight, which had caused warping, and the single-glazed units required secondary glazing to achieve even modest thermal and acoustic performance.
Having already chosen Origin bifold doors during a 2015 extension, the decision to upgrade the windows with Origin products was a natural progression. The goal was to bring the same style, quality, and reliability to the rest of the rear façade.
“We already had Origin bifold doors fitted when we created our extension in 2015. When the windows needed replacing at the rear of the property, it made sense to tie in the look and feel.”
Why Origin?
The homeowners were already familiar with Origin and its reputation, thanks to their existing bifolds. Revisiting the Origin website gave them confidence that they could replicate the exact appearance of their original windows while aligning with the look of the bifolds.
Crendon Conservatories, a trusted Origin partner, managed the installation and ensured every detail matched both the conservation requirements and the client’s expectations.
The Details That Make the Difference
In a conservation area, planning permission is not required when replacing windows on a like-for-like basis. This meant the specification needed to mirror the originals precisely:
- Replication of the existing vent windows
- Careful recreation of the window bars and sightlines
- Slate finish chosen to match the bifold doors
- Dual-coloured frames to complement both the exterior and interior finishes
By combining these traditional design cues with the performance of aluminium, the homeowners achieved authenticity without compromise.
The Result: Comfort, Consistency and Peace of Mind
The transformation has been immediate. Without the need for secondary glazing, the interior is warmer, quieter and more comfortable year-round. The aluminium frames open and close smoothly in all weather, with none of the warping issues that affected the old timber.
“We were able to dispense with the secondary glazing our single-glazed timber windows required for thermal efficiency and sound. There is no warping according to the weather, so the windows always open and close smoothly.”
Family and friends have praised the upgrade, and the homeowners now plan to replace the front windows in the same style and finish when the time is right.
