The Vision

When Marie Storrie and her family set out to design Killiekirk House, their ambition was clear: to create a home that combined the character of a traditional Scottish steading with the comfort, light, and flow of modern living. Having built their first home over two decades earlier, the family’s experience and eye for detail shaped every choice. Their goal was not just to build another house, but to create a timeless retreat that felt warm, welcoming, and distinctly theirs.

The Build

From the very first glance, Killiekirk House captures attention with its natural stone façade and symmetrical proportions. The design draws inspiration from the rural vernacular of Scottish steadings, yet elevates it with refined detailing. Large windows, Juliet balconies, and a generous entranceway create a sense of openness and grandeur.

Inside, the focus shifts to spaces that blend practicality with elegance. The bedrooms are crafted to be restful sanctuaries, layered with soft textures and muted tones. In one of the most characterful rooms, a brass bedstead set against painted panelling creates an atmosphere that is both calming and sophisticated. Natural oak flooring flows seamlessly throughout, reinforcing the home’s warmth while connecting each space to its rural setting.

A Home for Life

More than architecture, Killiekirk House is a lived-in family home. Its spaces are designed to adapt to the rhythms of everyday life, whether that’s welcoming grown-up children back for visits, hosting family gatherings, or providing sanctuary for the family’s Great Danes. In the sun-filled garden room, the dogs are as much at home as the people, enjoying the panoramic views across landscaped grounds. The exposed stonework and timber ceiling echo the home’s steading roots, while expansive glazing frames the connection between indoors and out.

A bit about the Partner

Killiekirk House was brought to life in partnership with Ekco, Origin’s premium partner. With unrivalled expertise in installing OB-49 bifolds, OW-80 picture windows and bespoke door systems, Ekco ensured every detail was delivered with precision and care. Their commitment to craftsmanship and customer service perfectly complemented the family’s vision, creating a seamless process from design through to installation.

The Outcome

The result is a house that celebrates its Scottish heritage while embracing modern ways of living. Killiekirk House is both aspirational and accessible: a home built on solid craftsmanship, filled with character, and designed with an understanding of what it means to live well.

As Marie describes it, “We wanted to create something that was practical, beautiful, and lasting - a home that feels timeless and deeply connected to the landscape around it.”
