As a busy mum of two and full-time interiors content creator, Amanda Cotton has spent years transforming her Hertfordshire family home. Every room had been carefully designed to suit family life, but Amanda and her husband wanted something different. A space created entirely for them.
They envisioned a garden room that could adapt to the way they live today. Somewhere to work, train and unwind, while feeling just as thoughtfully designed as the rest of their home.
Creating something truly bespoke
Like many homeowners, the couple initially explored pre-built garden rooms. While convenient, none offered the level of design or flexibility they were looking for. The layouts felt restrictive, and they were surprised by the cost compared to what was included.
After speaking with a trusted builder, they discovered that creating a bespoke garden room from scratch wasn't significantly more expensive. Instead of compromising, they could design every detail around their exact requirements.
The brief was simple. A dedicated home office, a private gym and practical garden storage, all brought together in a building that felt connected to both their home and the surrounding landscape.
Character through considered design
Amanda first discovered Origin after seeing a friend's project on Instagram. The extensive choice of styles, colours and finishing details immediately stood out, giving the couple the freedom to create exactly the aesthetic they had imagined.
The completed garden room features two sets of OB36+ Georgian Bifold Doors, allowing both the office and gym to open fully onto the garden. Although Amanda initially worried bifold doors might feel too contemporary, the addition of Georgian bars created a softer, more timeless appearance that perfectly complements the building's mid-century, heritage-inspired design.
Two OW70 Georgian Windows complete the space, filling the office with natural light while maintaining a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Designed down to the smallest detail
For Amanda, every finish mattered.
The office features a dual colour specification, pairing a bold RAL 3007 Red Black interior with a Satin Brass Signature Knurled Handle to create a workspace full of warmth and character. Across the rest of the building, classic black frames are complemented by Brushed Black Signature Knurled Handles, creating a seamless connection with the glazing on the rear of the main house.
Every choice reflects Amanda's love of layered interiors, rich colour palettes and carefully considered design.
Looking back, she describes choosing a bespoke build as one of the best decisions they made. The finished garden room feels like a natural extension of their home, thoughtfully designed around the way they live and a space they genuinely enjoy using every single day.
