TV Competition Winner

Chrissie Adams and husband Paul took on a reonvation that transformed their 70s home into a modern home that ended up as a TV show winner.

Chrissie was approached to take part in the BBC1 programme, Best House in Town. Each week, contestants would showcase their skills, ingenuity and commitment to transforming their properties with great design and syle.

First it came top in detached house category, then it won the votes of four of the five judges for the top tile.

The Build Process

It took them over a year to have planning consent to completely remodel the house. The front wall, one of the side walls and the roof are all that remains of the original house.

Why Origin?

Paul comes from New Zealand and he loves open plan kitchens and living spaces that flow straight into the garden. With this in mind, Paul wanted as much glass as possible at the back of the house to capture natural light.

It's clear when talking to the couple that the kitchen-dining-sitting room is the heart of this family's home. When it's sunny the doors are open and the children and their dog Archie have the ability to run in and out. They wanted two sets of Origin bifold doors and as a statement piece a bi-folding kitchen window. After searching the market for this more unique product, they decided that Origin was the only choice for functionality, style and security.

The Origin Bifolding Window

The bifold window itself opens up nearly the whole of the back wall to a lovely mature garden. Quite often, we find that people aren't aware that such a product exists, so it doesn't factor into their plans when designing their space. It's a feature window that is a real talking point and has really grown in popularity over the years in the UK. The whole family now have the ability to enjoy family meals, with the convenience of being close to the kitchen yet feel connected to the garden space.

When it came to colours, the couple wanted black aluminium (RAL 9005) to complement their timber cladding and they also wanted something a little different to Anthracite Grey to set their renovation apart.
